Originally from South Carolina, Dr. Macchiaverna moved to the Northeast to take a job that led to a career in the medical device industry. It kept him there for many years when he met his future wife. When engaged, the pair moved back to the Southeast to be closer to family.
They lived in Atlanta for many years with their daughter before moving to Augusta so he could complete dental school. And afterward, they moved, yet again, back to Atlanta.
“I have always enjoyed biology, medicine, and working with my hands. It was working in hospitals for so many years that I found I had the desire and capacity to be a provider. The road was tough going back to school, but it turned out to be the 2nd best thing next to starting my wonderful family that I hold so dear.
Working with my hands and communicating with others is really what fulfills me. There are so many instances of people coming in to be seen with great fear or trepidation about seeing a dentist. It is very rewarding to create a place of calm engaging care in the dental chair that lets those fears fad away.
When I was a child, my mother was afraid of the dentist. It was my pediatric dentist that talked to her and put her at ease. That same dentist always showed a kind gentleness to me as a child. I was never afraid. And so, I knew that I wanted to give back in the same way that he did, by creating an environment of supportive and relaxing oral care without judgement.”
